Timor Consultation 2006
5th April - 6th April 2006
Singapore
Concerned friends of Timor Leste from Singapore and the region gathered for ONE CAUSE: what does it take to bring transformation to the world's youngest nation, Asia's poorest country?
The consultation brought together veterans, with lots of experience in community building, and novices just starting out in what it means to bless Timor-Leste. A wide range of possibilities was presented. These include micro-credit development, orphan education, youth hubs, mobile clinics, teacher training, English Language classes, computer skills training and even helping to restore community radio stations.

Just last December, 300 young people from Singapore, Malaysia and Australia visited Timor Leste on two specially chartered flights. This Friendship Exchange Programme was endorsed by Timor-Leste's Friendship Liaison Office. The young people engaged in youth and children's work, community fun fairs, fact-finding, built relationships and worked on specific friendship-building assignments.
The adventure has only just begun. The 2005 Friendship Exchange programme was merely a preview of something greater. 2006 promises more exciting things. Singapore's young medical professionals will have an opportunity to bless Timorese villagers with their healthcare skills.
